*Unscheduled status employees are utilized in periods of increased patient care requirements in addition to providing coverage during a regularly scheduled employee’s absence (sick leave, vacation, etc). This is not a full-time or part-time position and therefore not benefits eligible. The general need for the position is between the hours of 0800-1630.

The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the clinic physicians (general surgeon and family practice physician) by preparing patients for examination, setting up for and assisting with procedures and exams, by administering medications under physician direction, by applying orthopedic devices as directed, and by performing any other tasks as directed by the physician and falling within the employee’s scope of practice/duties and the clinic’s scope of practice.  The Medical Assistant is also responsible for maintenance of the department, chart handling, lab duties, and computer operation.  The Medical Assistant must be skilled in multiple areas, and flexible in performing varied tasks in the course of a workday. 

Essential Functions:

  • Must demonstrate evidence of good physical and mental health, and be capable of medium heavy physical work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
  • Adequate visual and hearing ability to read and perform clinical procedures safely.
  • Manual dexterity to perform skills and procedures required for safe patient care.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited program, Certification as a Medical Assistant or Medical Assistant experience required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year Medical Assistant experience in an acute care setting or family practice clinic required.


Additional Information:

Unscheduled means on-call basis and not benefits eligible.  Unscheduled employees are required to work at least two shifts per month, however, Salem Hospital cannot assure a set schedule or hours per week.

 

Eight and Eighty (8/80) Work Schedule.  Statutory Overtime will be paid for hours worked in excess of 8 hours in one day or 80 hours in one 14 day work period.
